These terms apply when you create an account on Step by Step and use it to build and share guides. “You” is you, the creator. Guests who only open a guide shared with them don't need an account and don't agree to anything here; our privacy policy covers what happens when they visit.
Who provides the service
Step by Step is a personal demo project, provided by its creator, Francesco Palandra, as a private individual, not by a company. It is offered free of charge, without the guarantees of a commercial service. Write to frklintech@gmail.com with any question about these terms.
Your account
- You must be at least 18, and use an email address you can receive mail at.
- Keep your password and your email account safe. You are responsible for what happens in your account and its workspace.
- If you think someone else got into your account, tell us straight away.
- If you create an account for a business, you confirm you can accept these terms for it.
The service
Step by Step lets you build procedures as flows of steps, publish them, group them in collections and share them by link. It is free. If that ever changes, we will tell you first, and nothing will start costing money without your agreement.
As a demo project it keeps changing: features can come and go, and the service can pause or stop. We work to keep it running and your work safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors, so keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.
What you build stays yours
You keep every right to your guides, text, pictures and videos. You give us permission to store, copy, adapt (for example, resize a picture) and show them, only as needed to run Step by Step for you: to show your guides to the people who open your links, make previews, and keep backups. This permission ends when you delete the content, except for copies in backups, which expire on their own.
You confirm that you have the right to everything you upload, and that it doesn't break anyone's rights or the law.
Your guides and your links
- Your instructions are your responsibility. Check that they are accurate, up to date and safe to follow. We don't review guides, and we aren't responsible for what they tell people to do.
- A share link works like a key. Anyone who has it can open what it points to, with the pictures and videos in it, and can pass it on. Share links only with people who should see the guide, give them an end date, and revoke a link when its holder should no longer have it.
- Keep secrets in proportion. Don't put in a guide anything that must stay hidden from someone who could hold its link.
Personal data in your guides
Your workspace can hold personal data about other people: a guest's name in a link's label, a contact's phone number, someone in a picture. You are responsible for having a legal basis to use it and for telling those people what you do with it. For that data you are the controller and we are your processor (Article 28 GDPR). We:
- process it only to provide Step by Step to you, following these terms, which are your instructions;
- make sure everyone who works on the service keeps it confidential;
- protect it with appropriate technical and organisational measures, such as encrypted connections and access rules for each workspace;
- use the providers listed in our privacy policy as sub-processors, under contracts with the same protections, and update that list before adding a new one: you can object by writing to us;
- help you answer people who exercise their rights, and tell you without undue delay if a breach affects your data;
- delete it when you delete it or your account ends, unless the law requires us to keep it;
- give you the information you need to check that we keep these commitments.
Acceptable use
Don't use Step by Step to:
- break the law, or help someone else break it;
- publish content you don't have the rights to, or that is hateful, violent or sexually explicit;
- deceive people, for example by pretending to be another business, or by collecting passwords or payment details;
- put anyone in danger, for example with instructions you know to be unsafe;
- send spam or spread malware;
- get into other people's workspaces, test or get around our security, or overload the service.
Ending
You can stop using Step by Step at any time. To close your account and delete its workspace, write to frklintech@gmail.com.
We may suspend an account, or take down a guide, that breaks these terms or puts people at risk. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix it. If we ever close Step by Step, we will tell you at least 30 days before.
Liability
Step by Step is provided as it is and as available. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses, such as lost profit, lost business or lost data, or for what a guide tells people to do. Our total liability to you is limited to the greater of €100 and what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as for fraud, wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you use Step by Step as a consumer, you also keep every right the law of your country gives you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For a significant change we will tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it applies. If you keep using Step by Step after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can close your account.
